E3 2018 promises to be one of the most unpredictable gaming events of the year and that’s due to the fact that most of the games and consoles that were rumored the last two years are finally out or will be out before the annual video game conference in June. Just like last year, the industry execs and press there to cover the event will be rubbing shoulders with excited consumers eager to try out their favorite company’s new game or product!
After months of tweeting the E3 PR team, they’ve finally announced that Gamer Passes (for consumers) will go on sale Monday, February 12 12pm ET!
If you’re dead set on attending this year’s expo, you’re going to want to be one of the first to buy your ticket, because for the first 1,000 people the price will be $149. After that, it jumps up to $249. While some gamers may see an extra $100 as a worthy sacrifice, remember that the cost for a lodging, food, and transportation are lot higher during this event.
Also returning to E3 for the second year in a row will be E3 Coliseum at LA Live, just next door to the Los Angeles Convention Center. This 3-day event, produced by Geoff Keighley, features panels from some of the biggest names in the industry and allows fans to have a behind-the-scenes access to some of the week’s biggest announcements.
It’s important for attendees to remember that while E3 is an amazing experience, it can also be somewhat of a letdown. When people attend E3 for the first time, they may be expecting to gain access to the illustrious E3 Press Conferences. However, that’s simply not true. E3 takes places Tuesday through Thursday and the Press Conferences start on Saturday and go until Monday. This means that most of these passes are for consumers to stand in line for hours to play the game their most excited about for about 5 minutes and then wait in another, longer line.
While that may sway you from deciding to go to E3 2018, the ESA has made a few updates to the format that may change your mind. At the request of many industry workers, press, and consumers, they’ve decided to extend the hours so press/industry can get their hands on the games earlier than consumers, which theoretically should in turn make the lines go quicker when it’s the consumers’ turn. - INDUSTRY AND MEDIA 11 a.m. – 7 p.m
- GAMER PASS 2 p.m. – 7 p.m.
- Wednesday, June 13
- I&M 9 a.m. – 7 p.m.
- GP 12 p.m. – 7 p.m.
- Thursday, June 14
- I&M 9 a.m. – 6 p.m.
- GP 9 a.m. – 6 pm.
