EA announced that their E3 press conference titled “EA Play” will take place on the Sunday before E3. The press conference will start at 1PM June 12th and be held in Club Nokia at LA Live, which is right next door to the convention center itself.
When asked if EA will have a presence at all, a rep has noted that EA will hold private meetings for specific games within the convention center. These normally take place in smaller rooms located throughout the center, and not on the show floor. (Unless a booth is set up to do so.)
EA instead rented out Club Nokia from June 12-14 and will host events for gamers to come check out games, talk about them, and purchase merchandise. A similar event will be held in London at the same time at The Mermaid.
EA noted that while tickets are free they do need to be reserved in advance as there is a limit of attendees allowed in the building.
E3 itself is scheduled to run at the LA Convention Center from June 14-16. Other press conferences are not set in stone, but based on past years they seem to be lining up around the same times and EA’s will not conflict with anyone.
Personally I see this as a big blow because EA’s booth is normally a bigger and more vibrant booth, something that is really worth seeing in-person. Not having them there, along with a few other companies that already dropped out, will leave that hall rather empty.
