Do you know how you can tell when a game is really bad? When it doesn’t even make it out of the beta stage. Seriously, that’s pretty awful and I can’t think of many games that I have heard it happening to. Yet, here we are with the report that come January 18th, Family Guy Online (the FTP MMO based on the TV show) will be shutting down.
The game is only in beta, yet that date is not an end to the beta phase, it’s the end of the game altogether. The official site posted a statement saying that anyone in the last 60 days who have paid real money for in-game items will be getting a full refund. IGN got the confirmation that the entire endeavor was shutting down.
Licensed games have a bad enough reputation as it is, and with the abysmal presentation of Family Guy: Back to the Multiverse (a multi-platform title), I can’t think of many people who had interest in the online game anyway. Oh well, at least the people will be getting their money back.
No reason was given for the closure, but let’s face it, if a game closes down during Beta, it’s only for one reason: it stinks. If you have played this game, we’d love to hear your thoughts on it.
