It wasn’t easy, but Bethesda and the team at Tango Gameworks listened to feedback from the fans clamoring for, the normally 3rd-person designed, The Evil Within 2 to become a first-person shooter.  After some “High-level hacking”, Tango and Bethesda obliged and starting today fans of The Evil Within 2 can download a FREE update to enact the first-person mode.

Check it out in action, below:

In addition to releasing this new trailer, Bethesda posted an interview on their website, discussing the process of creating a first-person mode with Producer Shinsaku Ohara.  According to the interview, some cheeky fans may have forced Bethesda and Tango Gameworks‘ hands to release a first-person mode…

We experimented a bit with first-person in the full game, but it was more of an afterthought and a little bit of playing around on our side, since we designed the game in third-person.

Some savvy users figured out a way to activate this mode outside of its intended area, and the reaction to it was pretty positive, so we said, “What the heck. Let’s put it in as a bonus for all platforms.” A lot of players like playing horror games in first-person, so for those who want to see some of the game’s situations through Sebastian’s eyes, it’s a really neat experience.
