Though no formal announcement has been made, a sequel to the hit game, Horizon Zero Dawn, is currently in development as revealed at [checks notes] Star Wars Celebration.
Let’s take a moment to pause from all the Star Wars news this weekend to talk about something that’s also incredibly cool. Funny enough, the news did originate at Celebration, though not in any panel.
Horizon Zero Dawn launched in 2017 and it was, in short, amazing. There was plenty of hype behind the game and it more than delivered. The gameplay was incredibly fun, the story kept you hooked, and it was a great open world to explore. It was a hit with both critics and gamers, selling more than enough to justify a sequel…Yet two years later, and we haven’t heard anything about one.
Thankfully, we now know that a sequel is happening and already in (some stage of) development. While at Star Wars Celebration, Janina Gavankar, who portrayed Battlefront II‘s primary character and Tatai in The Frozen Wilds DLC of HZD, let slip the information to a fan:
“It’s incredible, wait ’til you see the sequel. You’re gonna die – I know some secrets! – you’re gonna die.”
Sure, that’s not a whole lot of information to go on, but it’s a good indicator that the developers have been working on it for a least a little bit (enough to involve actors). While PlayStation won’t have an E3 presence this year, hopefully we’ll learn more about Horizon Zero Dawn 2 sooner rather than later.
