It’s been a bit since we saw any new content for Kingdom Hearts III and even longer since we got a glimpse of Final Fantasy VII Remake and now we know why, thanks to their director. In a recent interview in Weekly Famitsu, translation assist by Gamitsu, Tetsuya Nomura, gave a brief update on the state of both games.
When asked about the development of Kingdom Hearts III, Nomura responded:
“While I can’t make a sweeping statement because the development process is different from what we’ve done so far, there are still worlds untouched. Production is progressing on unannounced worlds, in a state that we cannot show them off. In terms of the state of development, there is still some way to go.”
Then, Nomura was asked to give an update on Final Fantasy VII Remake.
“We’re steadily progressing on production. While we are making them, I apologize that the wait will be be a bit longer for Kingdom Hearts III and Final Fantasy VII Remake. I am very sorry, but to that degree I will make a game that will meet your expectations.”
If you’re not used to waiting for Kingdom Hearts III, you haven’t been a fan for that long. Over the years, KHIII fans, like myself, have learned how to have the patience of a buddhist monk when it comes to the long overdue release of this game. As for Final Fantasy VII Remake, it was surprising when we weren’t given any update at E3 2016. Nomura explains that he wants to change that.
“Last year, I didn’t put out much information on either title, but this year I want to show our progress at an event somewhere. The release of the titles themselves have still have a way to go. But there are many titles releasing this year, if you can wait for any ‘surprises.’”
To be fair, like Nomura said, it’s not like Square Enix has been sitting on their hands waiting for these games to come out. In 2016, SE spent most of their resources on Final Fantasy XV. Plus, Yoshinori Kitase acknowledged that 2016 was a preparation year for them. So what does that mean for us? It means that we should be getting more new content this year, perhaps at E3 2017!
We’re still far away from getting our hands on these games but we’re at least one step closer.
Neither title has a release date, as of yet. Both will be on Playstation 4 and Xbox One.
