Delay season is the unofficial season none of us enjoy. In just the first month of 2020, alone, we saw games like Final Fantasy VII Remake, Marvel’s Avengers, Cyberpunk 2077, Marvel’s Iron Man VR, and Dying Light 2 get hit with delays. Unfortunately, February won’t be the exception as a new title is joining the club.
Publisher KOEI TECMO America announced, via Twitter, that the ambitious Fairy Tail video game has been pushed back from March to June 26, 2020 on Nintendo Switch and PS4 and June 25 for PC (Steam).
According to the memo by Producer Keisuke Kikuchi, the delay is to allow the developer Gust more time to “enhance magical effects, event scene effects, improve the game balance, and more”. Below is the complete statement.
While many of us have adopted the mindset of “As long as they release the best possible game”, the unfortunate truth of video game delays that they add stress and work hours to dev teams in order to “polish the game”.
If there’s one silver-lining we can take from this delay, it’s that KOEI TECMO picked a great time to release it. As it stands, June is a pretty slow time for new releases. Perhaps the added workload will end up being a blessing in disguise, due to the lack of competition. Regardless, though, it’s an unfortunate circumstance all around.
The Fairy Tail video game will now release on June 26, 2020 on PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch, June 25, 2020 on PC (Steam).
