Next month will see the debut of one of our most anticipated video games of 2019, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. As the FromSoftware product nears it’s release date, they’ve premiered a story preview trailer to allow us to see where it all began for the one-armed shinobi, Sekiro. It starts with conflict, bloodshed, and a choice. It starts with The Owl.
In the aftermath of a gruesome battle, the Owl finds a new apprentice. Winner of “Best of gamescom” and “Best Action Game” at gamescom 2018, Sekiro™: Shadows Die Twice is the next adventure from developer FromSoftware, creators of Bloodborne and the Dark Souls series. Explore late 1500s Sengoku Japan, a brutal period of constant life and death conflict, as you come face-to-face with larger than life foes in a dark and twisted world. Unleash an arsenal of deadly prosthetic tools and powerful ninja abilities while you blend stealth, vertical traversal, and visceral head-to-head combat in a bloody confrontation.
Every time FromSoftware/Activision release new content for Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, I’m always amazed. The unique style of combat (with the various tools, fighting styles, and verticality), the original story, and the intriguing setting have often left me baffled and lost for words. Heck, even sitting down with the developers at FromSoftware was something special. This Story Preview Trailer may have been my favorite, though.
As gamers, we all love gameplay trailers, but sometimes you need a great cinematic trailer to pull you in. That’s what this Story Preview Trailer does. Seeing the bloodshed is cool, but what got me was the interaction between young Sekiro and The Owl. How the Owl’s katana was able to cut Sekiro’s face like a knife through warm butter and the subtle ways the blood dripped from his face and hand when he grabbed the Owl’s sword, is beyond incredible. That level of detail and care put into this trailer is signal that Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is one of the can’t miss games of 2019.
Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice releases on Xbox One, Playstation 4, and Steam on March 22, 2019!
