Today, Atari announced that the Atari VCS will be available for pre-sale on May 30th of this year. This console will not be the same old thing we have seen in the past, it is something completely new from Atari. The AMD team has worked closely on this project and provided a custom processor with Radeon Graphics Technology!
The VCS will also support 4k visual, HDR/60 FPS content, full expandable storage, dual-band WiFI, Bluetooth 5.0, and UBS 3.0! Now, I don’t know about you guys but that is a lot of exciting news for such a small console.
But wait, there’s more! Not only are we getting a new console, we are also getting an updated Joystick and a sick modernized controller by Power A. If some of you have followed my work over the years, I have always been a huge fan of the Power A products.
Their mobile gaming controllers were some of the best in the business, but now they seem to be working on bigger and brighter things. In the recent past, they have been releasing controllers for the Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch. Power A is now helping bring back a company that, at one time, ruled the games industry.
In closing, the system will also feature 100 Classic Atari titles and support a full range of “popular modern titles”. When they say popular modern title, I don’t know if that means full triple-A support, or if that means indie game support. All I know is this, Atari is back and we are very excited to see what is to come from this console.
The Pre-Sale will go live exclusively on IndieGoGo and if you order you’re in time you can get the VCS Collector’s Edition w/ special retro-inspired wood grain front finish. There will be a multitude of packages available, but the price for the Early-bird Atari VCS packages, including the Onyx Sleek Black Edition will start at just $199!
