In case you were wondering, there are a ton of games on the Nintendo Switch. Moreso, there are a ton of GREAT games on the little console, and the number just keeps increasing. If you’re a Switch owner, today brings the news that your backlog is about to get significantly longer as some really cool Indie games have arrived and ready to download right now (or just a little bit later today):
Prison Architect – The BAFTA-winning and multi-million selling Prison Architect begins its sentence on Nintendo Switch starting today, August 20th. Developed by Double Eleven (Prison Architect XB1/PS4, Songbringer XB1/PS4), the prison design and management simulator’s Nintendo Switch version includes the formerly released All Day and a Night and Psych Ward expansions. The popular Escape Mode, which lets players attempt a jailbreak through their own creations as a desperate inmate, is planned for release later this summer as an expanded DLC pack.
In Prison Architect, players build and manage their own maximum security prison to hold the most hardened of criminals. Originally released on PC in 2015 from developer and publisher Introversion Software, the game has sold more than 3 million copies worldwide and achieved critical acclaim among dozens of global media outlets.
The Nintendo Switch edition from developer and publisher Double Eleven includes a fully-fledged story mode exploring the gruesome and often convoluted matters of legal grey areas in the prison system, as well as a wildly in-depth sandbox mode featuring new in-game community features. These additions allow players to build, maintain and share their maximum security prisons with the tap of a button.
Bad North – The king is dead at the hands of Viking invaders. Hope is a distant glimmer in the fog, fading fast with every passing moment. As you rise to take your father’s place as ruler, it will fall to you to stage your defenses. But make no mistake – this is no fight for victory, but a desperate grasp for survival.
Bad North is a charming but brutal real-time tactics roguelite. Defend your idyllic island kingdom against a horde of Viking invaders, as you lead the desperate exodus of your people. Command your loyal subjects to take full tactical advantage of the unique shape of each island. Everything is at stake: fail, and watch the blood of your subjects stain the ground red.
Morphies Law – In Morphies Law, the robot morphing multiplayer shooter for Nintendo Switch where size matters, with each weapon hit you steal mass, making you grow and your enemy shrink. In this FPS when you land a headshot your enemies head will shrink while yours grows, and if you pull off a bunch of leg shots you can see where your giant legs can take you, whatever part you shoot is the part that will grow. If you take some hits and shrink down, you can use your tiny body to hide in secret passages, ready for an ambush.
Oh, but that’s far from all. While those will be availabe to play today (and plenty enough to keep you busy for a while), there are several other indie games getting ports for the platform that are coming just a little bit down the road, including the impressive Everspace and several from 11-Bit Studios:
Everspace (December 2018) – Hamburg-based independent developer ROCKFISH Games will present EVERSPACE, a roguelike 3D space shooter and surprise hit on PC and console, to the public for the first time, as well as for the first time on portable console Nintendo® Switch™, at this year’s Gamescom in the Nindie Area at the Nintendo booth. Moonlighter, by Digital Sun Games tells a story of an adventurous shopkeeper with dreams of becoming a hero. In this action-RPG with rogue-lite elements, you’ll have to stay sharp to take care of business – not only with a sword but also quite literally, as you manage your own shop.
