Another classic, mini version of an iconic console will be hitting the market this Fall. SEGA has announced that they will be releasing the SEGA Genesis Mini and SEGA Mega Drive Mini. Each system will run for approximately $79.99 USD/£69.99/€79.99/ $139.95 AUD and will contain 40 classic SEGA classic games, like the confirmed 10 for North America and Europe below:
- Sonic the Hedgehog
- Ecco the Dolphin
- Castlevania: Bloodlines
- Space Harrier 2
- Shining Force
- Dr. Robotnik’s Mean Bean Machine
- ToeJam & Earl
- Comix Zone
- Altered Beast
- Gunstar Heroes
More will be revealed in the coming months, but that’s already a pretty solid lineup. Both models are over half the size of the original Genesis and Mega Drive models, and both Minis will include two replica three-button USB controllers, a USB to Micro-B power cable and an HDMI cable. Japanese models were on display at the Sega Fes event in Tokyo. It included a lineup of different games and smaller six-button controllers, like what came with the classic Mega Drive.

Last year marked the 30th anniversary of SEGA‘s classic console, Mega Drive, first hitting stores in Japan. In honor of this epic anniversary, SEGA had planned on releasing these updated, Mini versions of their classic systems, along with the version that most North Americans know as, the SEGA Genesis. However, the system was delayed after the decision to separate with the company responsible for 2017’s ill-conceived SEGA Genesis Flashback. Now, with AtGames out of the picture, SEGA has given the production rights to M2 (makers of the SEGA AGES series and SEGA 3D Classics Collection) just in time to make the 30th anniversary of SEGA’s North American Mega Drive, Genesis.
The SEGA Genesis Mini and the SEGA Mega Drive Mini will release on September 19, 2019.
