During SEGA Fest 2018 in Japan, SEGA announced that their most beloved saga, Shenmue would be experiencing a comeback in the form of re-releases for its first two games, Shenmue I & II. The game that once called the Dreamcast its home will finally be experienced the way it should’ve been all along, on Xbox One, Playstation 4, and PC. While this is merely a re-release and not a remaster, these more powerful systems will likely allow a game series that was ahead of its time to finally feel like it was meant to.
If that doesn’t get you in the mood, SEGA unleashed a brand new announcement trailer that is sure to bring back all the feels…
These revolutionary masterpieces deliver a gripping story of retribution as Ryo Hazuki sets out to avenge his father’s death and attempts to unravel the secrets behind a mysterious artefact known as the Dragon Mirror.
In a lot of ways, the Shenmue saga helped shape the way today’s games are developed. Before anyone really delivered an open-world experience Shenmue brought it to the limelight. Before combat systems were perfected, Shenmue mastered the art of juijistu. By bringing it to the modern world, Shenmue I & II will be able to utilize today’s technology to include modernized features including fully scalable screen resolution, choice of modern or classic control schemes, PC graphics options, an updated user interface and the option to enjoy either the original Japanese or English voiceovers, alongside the gripping story.
Gamers who once experienced this series will be able to compare the differences between the Dreamcast and the updated systems, alongside the gamers that are new to the series when it releases later this year. Shenmue I & II copies, both digital and physical, will be available to pre-order from first party stores and Steam soon.
Stay tuned for more news as it develops!
