One of the primary aspects of my Star Wars collection at home are books. Whether we’re talking fictional stories, behind the scenes, material, and everything in between if it’s in book form I want it. Of course, that doesn’t mean they’re always good, but I’m always eager to see how things work out when they try something different.
While Star Wars has had plenty of pop-up style books in the past, the recently released Ultimate Pop-Up Galaxy is like nothing we’ve seen before. It’s on a totally different scale that makes it impressive and fun to play around with.
Technically speaking, the book is comprised of only five two-page spreads. These fill in the broad strokes of the Star Wars films (including a preview of some The Rise of Skywalker stuff) dole out via 24 individual pop-up sections. These provide some fun tidbits on the story that are to the point and ideal for younger kids reading along.
While that may not sound like a lot, this book is absolutely massive. The pop-ups/fold outs are on another level, with the kind of detail I would have never imagined possible for a pop-up book. Each spread is mind-blowing and impressive on their own, but there’s more surprises to be had.
The ENTIRE book is able to be folded out (though you’ll need quite a bit of space to do it), resulting in a gorgeous visual timeline of the entire Saga. It’s impressive to see, especially considering how much easier it is to do than expected, and really hammers home the amount of detail and attention that went into it.
If you have kids who love Star Wars, this is more than ideal. Visually impressive and fun to unravel, Insight Edition’s Star Wars: The Ultimate Pop-Up Galaxy will make an excellent gift for the Star Wars fan (regardless of age) on your Christmas shopping list.
