A rumor floated around early yesterday that Nintendo was set to release a mini version of the Nintendo Wii. Well it looks like those rumors turned out to be true…as a Canada exclusive. It’s real cheap, but is also losing a couple of key features in the process.
This morning Nintendo officially announced the Wii Mini coming to Canada on December 7th for only $99. All things considered that’s a hell of a deal, but the new version doesn’t feature GameCube compatibility nor wireless internet access. That’s kind of a bummer, and at that point, I’m not sure how worth it this package really becomes.
At this time there are no plans to bring this system elsewhere, which is probably a good idea. Since the company just launched their next-generation console, the Wii U, I could see this being very confusing. I mean, think of all the kids who ask for the “new Wii” for Christmas. The parents who don’t know any better may go to the store, see this new version of the Wii and think that’s what they want.
I suppose if you live and Canada, and never got a chance to get your hands on the Wii this would be a decent opportunity to pick one up. I will say however, that it looks pretty damn nice.
