Sony just announced that certain launch titles for the PlayStation Vita will be cross purchased with the PS3. Only a select few are a part of this program, but it is something rather neat.
Here is what Sony has noted:
“When you buy MotorStorm RC you will be able to play it on PS3 and PS Vita at no additional cost.
When you buy Hustle Kings and/or Top Darts for PS Vita, you will get the PS3 versions for free. If you already own these games on PS3, you’ll be able to download the PS Vita version for free.
If you purchase WipEout 2048 and you already own WipEout HD and the HD Fury DLC on PS3, you will be able to download them for free when they launch on PS Vita later this spring.
DLC purchased for the PS3 version of Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 can be used on the PS Vita version for free (and vice versa).” PlayStation Blog
This is great news for anyone that plans on buying any of these games, but the easiest way to help sell Vita titles would be to keep the program going for the future. I mean why not follow the same path Sony took with Blu-ray? In order to make people more comfortable with Blu-ray they started releasing bundles. These bundles included a DVD and Blu-ray disc, today they include digital downloads and even 3D version for people than will buy a 3D TV eventually.
Like I said this makes people more comfortable when buying the product. Maybe they don’t own it, maybe the have a portable DVD player or laptop and don’t want to buy things separately. Same thing can be said here with the Vita. They are hopefully going to continue selling games that have cross connectivity, so why should we have to purchase both games at full price? Make the Vita and PS3 one and one, sell the game for both. Up the price of a bundle by 10 or 15 dollars (making it 70 or 75 dollars total) and have the Vita and PS3 games in the box.
Not only will you make the Vita owners happy, but you will help it sell a lot better. You already have the install base of players on PS3, help them transfer to the Vita, it is the best weapon Sony has. What do you think? Would you buy bundles like this?
