Assassins Creed: Rogue Remastered
Ok so I’m late (like super late) with this but in my defense, I was seriously busy replaying this game. Can ya blame me? OK maybe a little, so let’s get into if this game is worth it, shall we?
Way back in March of 2018 Ubisoft re-released the remastered version of Assassins Creed Rogue, the story of an assassin who becomes disillusioned with the tactics used by the assassin faction and after a catastrophic event involving an artifact. You play as Shay Patrick Cormac a man who abandons the creed to join their sworn enemies, the Templars.
When the game released it was on the old Gen systems at the time, but the biggest hindrance to the game was that Assassins Creed Unity was released the same say as this on the next-gen systems and it was not received well by the public. For months the only thing you saw were complaints about how bad Unity was and even I stopped playing Unity after about 3 days and didn’t pick the game back up until about 5 months later. The consensus at the time seemed to be well if this game[Unity] is so bad I’m certainly not getting a last gen system game that was released the same day and Rogue experienced the unfortunate backlash of another game in the series by the same company.
The bad thing here is that Rogue was the better of the two games at the time. Now Ubi has updated the game for the PS4/X-box one systems and I am loving it just as much as the first time I played it, mind you the first time I played it was almost a year and a half after it was released. I really enjoyed the updated graphics, cutscenes in the game, it had a much better look overall and well it’s pretty much what you’d expect from a remaster.
The bad part of the game was the controls. They just seemed overly sensitive to me and this caused quite a few bad jumps, falling to your death instead of a leap of faith, running into obstacles and getting stuck there until you pulled directly away from them, & you had to hit some items precisely or you wouldn’t run up them (ropes, tree limbs, etc). this is a pretty big deal when it comes to finishing or failing a mission when you have to chase someone down and catch them.
The other issue I had, and this one is pretty minor, is If you keep up with the AC series you know that the game has been revamped in AC Origins so there’s a bit of a refamiliarization you have to go thru as you have to go back to mechanics used in Black Flag. However, this is something that all AC gamers face when you get a few games ahead and go back to play one of the earlier games it becomes a tad “meh” after a while. Even though this game has a much better story than AC Unity it pales in comparison to Black Flag which as I mentioned the mechanics of this game uses.
So, whether you are a diehard fan of the series or you just happened to skip AC Rogue for another game in the series, check this one out. Chances are you won’t be disappointed.
Play it again, Sam
Remasters generally aren't for everyone. As I said before this is for the die-hard fans that enjoy the series and /or the few people who missed out on rogue the first time around. That or you ditched your old PS3 / Xbox 360 and want to add to your Trophy / Achievement count. Whatever your reason is, get ready to reverse the tables as your assassin turned Templar takes out his former friends. There are even some cameo appearances of characters from AC III and Black Flag.
