The new One Piece Film: Gold is a high octane ride from start to finish, only slowing for brief moments of story development.

The film opens with Big Band music you can tap your feet too. As a fan of that style music it immediately pulled me in. Luffy and his crew show up at a huge ship known as Gran Tesoro. Laden with gold from bow to stern, shimmering in the spotlights, a gigantic casino city on the water where pirate and Navy alike can be free to have fun without consequence, or so it seems.

A few of the characters were new to me and some of the main characters had abilities I'd never seen before because I missed out on a ton of episodes but that didn't bother me. It was true what the PR email said it's "a standalone film that does not require new audiences to be familiar with previous content to enjoy the thrill of this new adventure."

Watching this movie brought my love of the anime rushing back in, always looking like the antagonist had the upper hand, then the Straw Hat crew show exactly why they are the best pirates on the Deep Blue. I don't want to give any spoilers because fans of the anime or manga really need to go watch it in theaters.

This is part one of a series of films based on the best-selling manga in history.
