It's the new year and of course that means it's time for new Star Wars rumors...sort of. This is actually an update to a rumor that's been floating around for some time now, regarding the Star Wars spin-off movies Disney and Lucasfilm have planned. The newest report claims that Boba Fett will be the first focus of the new film with Lawrence Kasdan currently writing the script. Come inside for the details of the report and our take on it!
Boba Fett has been rumored to be getting his very own film since before even Episode VII was officially announced. When Disney revealed plans for standalone films to release between the numbered Star Wars movies, the character of the notorious bounty hunter was once again brought up. Now, it's cropping up again. While doing AMC's Movie Talk (a webshow) Jon Schnepp (director of TV show Metalocalypse) claimed to have knowledge that the film was for sure happening:
"One of them is Boba Fett," he said. "It is. I know. I know for a fact. I will never reveal my source, but it is the one written by Lawrence Kasdan."
Obviously this should be taken with a grain of salt, but it's interesting, nonetheless that we're hearing about this rumor once again. Boba Fett is one of the most popular characters in the Star Wars universe, and despite having some of his origins explored in the prequels and Clone Wars TV show, he's still enigmatic. A movie dedicated to him would seem like a no-brainer, and would be sure to make tons of money.
Lawrence Kasdan wrote Empire Strikes Back and introduced the character originally, so it's not outside the realm of possibility for him to be writing a movie all about the bounty hunter. Since Kasdan has already been confirmed to be taking charge in some form over the spin-off movies it adds a little more to the rumor.
Honestly, I'm not sure what to think of the newest report. Don't get me wrong, I have a strong feeling a Boba Fett movie is coming, I'm just not sure Schnepp would be in the know about it. With the first of the spin-offs set supposedly for a 2016 release, hopefully we'll start hearing more about it sooner rather than later.
