You're going to have to file this one under rumor, and take the news with a heavy grain of salt. According to the TRON fan-site, Tron-Sector, not only has TRON 3 (a sequel to Legacy) been officially greenlit by Disney, but the very first teaser trailer could be attached to the upcoming blu-ray release of TRON: Legacy.
If you're a Star Wars nut like me, then you've been eagerly awaiting the announcement from this year's Consumer Electronics Show (CES). It was announced a couple weeks ago that Darth Vader himself would be making an appearance at CES, and fanboys around the world became abuzz at the possibilities. However, a recent press invite sent out by Lucasfilm (pictured below) left little doubt as to what the announcement would entail: the Saga on blu-ray.
Disney has really been enjoying its 3D lately. The upconversion for Beauty and the Beast apparently hit well with people who attended this year’s Show West, and Disney has been hyping up that film for a long time. However, delays have pushed this film out of Disney’s theatrical schedule. Now, it seems like it will skip the theatrical route all together, and instead go straight to Blu-Ray...but still in 3D. More after the break.
The Goonies are back to save us from movie mediocrity. After a summer of tired remakes and big-budget misfires, it’s nice to sit down and watch a movie with some true originality and child actors that don’t annoy you to death. To celebrate the film’s 25th anniversary, Warner Brothers has reissued The Goonies in a new deluxe collector’s edition gift set, that’s chock full of goodies straight out One Eyed Willie’s stash.
While The Goonies has been released on DVD and Blu-ray before with decent extras, this is the first deluxe gift set that caters directly to the Goonies’ core fan base, usually made up of viewers who grew up in the 1980s and saw the film in theaters or soaked in one of the many cable TV showings. The set includes a big hunk of nostalgia, including reprints of the original 1985 souvenir magazine and movie storyboards. There are also new items meant to recapture the 80s, including a Goonies board game.
Since Avatar was initially released on Blu-ray, fans have known that they weren't getting the full package. James Cameron has been holding out on us, and teasing us with a massive collector's edition in the future. Unfortunately this seems to be the trend these days with filmmakers and there's not much we can do about it. Fans will be glad to hear however that details have finally emerged on what all will be included in the Avatar Extended Collector’s Edition.
It's looking good, and filled with all kinds of bonuses for fans, but I'm sure there are plenty of people out there who still won't think buying another copy is justified. After reading all of these details, it's safe to say that I'm going to own this version of the film as well.
