Our Favorite Nintendo Exclusives: Terranigma

As an old-school JRPG fan, and a particular fan of the Super Nintendo, I often get asked by interested friends what my favourite SNES game of all time is. In a field populated by so many exceptional titles, and at a time when Japanese development styles weren’t compromised by a financial need to appease western tastes, that’s a hard decision to make. Keeping to this genre, and even in the shadows of the exceptional Final Fantasy 6 and Chrono Trigger, I conclude that it would have to be Enix’s Terranigma.

Best Xbox Exclusives: Halo 2

When you talk about Xbox, no matter what console you are a fan of, one thing comes to mind. Halo. You simply cannot talk about Xbox without mentioning Halo, and you for sure can’t talk “best exclusives” without mention of it. While I wasn’t a huge fan of the original Xbox, I do have fond memories of the first two titles of Halo.

Each month the Cinelinx staff will write a handful of articles covering a specified gaming-related topic, similar to our Movielinx series on the film side of things. These articles will be notified by the Gamerlinx banner. Gamerlinx is an exploration and discussion of our personal connections with video games.  This month, we're putting the focus solely on Microsoft's gaming console, and exploring the best exclusive titles (throughout all generations) to have ever come from the Xbox systems. Join us in our discussion all month long, and share your thoughts with us!

Best Xbox Exclusives: Knights of the Old Republic

When the original Xbox first hit the scene, I could not have cared less.  I was a Nintendo/Sony fanboy through and through and refused to so much as glance at Microsoft’s system...until a particular game came to the system exclusively.  A game that wanted to challenge a player’s morality within a game, providing real consequences for actions, and an affect on the overall story.  Best of all, it was all set within the Star Wars universe.  I couldn’t pass it up, and it remains on the strongest games to have ever graced a Microsoft console.

Things Are Heating Up This July at Cinelinx!

If there was any doubt, the rising temperatures are certainly giving it away, it’s Summer time folks!  This marks the halfway point of the Summer movie season, and while only a couple things have really blown up the box office this season so far, there are more opportunities around the corner.  We’ve got plenty of fun things lined up this month here at Cinelinx.  Come inside to see what we have in store!

The Industry Needs To Return To Arcades

The current generation of gamers is rather young and continuing to evolve, but gaming itself has been around for decades. Considering how massive the game industry is now, it’s crazy to think they’re not trying to expand beyond your living rooms. Movies have theaters, music has concerts, and even comic books have evolved beyond comics. Why is gaming not trying to “put on a show” like everyone else? With events like E3 and PAX, it has been proven that gamers can and will spend money to get more out of gaming. The problem is that gaming was once actually popular as arcades and now those arcades have vanished. However, arcades could be the concert or movie theaters of the gaming industry, if they were ever given a chance, but due to the history of the arcade, that may never happen. Let’s discover what arcades were and re-imagine them in a new way that could lead to a massive expansion of video games.

PlayStation Plus Discounts For May 2014

As the cost of living continues to increase for most people, it sometimes becomes hard to find a good deal on the games you want to play.  That is where Sony has stepped in.  My goal is to inform the n00bs, and seasoned vets alike, of the monthly discounts offered through their store in hopes that, you too, will see the benefits of being a Plus member.

The Best Sony Exclusives: Metal Gear Solid

In 1998, Hideo Kojima released what would go on to become one of the most iconic franchises in video game history. Yes it is true that Metal Gear had a few games released before Metal Gear Solid, but the first Solid game is what became something great. From that day we have seen several variations of MGS on all kinds of consoles that have been truly groundbreaking in several ways. While MGS may not be entirely exclusive, it once was, and because of that…. it is one of Sony’s greatest PlayStation Exclusives.

The Best Sony Exclusives: God of War

Back in 2006 Sony set a new standard in the action/adventure genre with God of War.  The game has spawned a successful gaming franchise now, with many other games emulating it's style.  At the time of its release, however, God of War was revolutionary and showcased the power still residing within Sony's PlayStation 2.  Since we're examining the best Sony exclusives this month, it's almost impossible to not mention David Jaffe and Sony Santa Monica's incredible action title.
