Well, at long last Disney has finally announced the name for its all new streaming service which will debut next year . And the name is *drumroll*
Disney+. (I wonder how much someone got paid to come up with Disney Plus?) Oh well let's get into this story.
During a live audio webcast of Disney’s fiscal year and 4th quarter 2018 financial results, Disney Chairman and CEO Bob Iger announced that the direct to consumer streaming service will be called Disney Plus and is scheduled to launch in late 2019.
In that same meeting they also announced that a 2nd Star Wars live action series will go into production next year which will be the adventures of Cassian Andor during the early years of the Rebellion and prior to the events of Rogue One: a star wars story. For more about that series check out this article HERE.
Also during the meeting they confirmed the live action series centered around Loki and that Tom Hiddleston will be playing the MCU villain everyone loves so much. Check out our other article for more on the loki series and more HERE.
These shows join an already impressive lineup for Disney which will include shows set in the World of Disney / Pixar’s Monsters Inc., Disney Channels High School Musical, and The Mandalorian. As of right now there is no word on if the recently cancelled Netflix MCU shows Iron Fist or Luke cage will be joining the Disney+ lineup, but I’m sure keeping my fingers crossed. There has also been no mention of how much the service will cost., although. I’m pretty sure most of us would pay up if Disney priced it within $80 to $120 a year.
What do you think of the new channel name? Can you come up with something better? Let us know.
