A Female-Led Remake of ‘Cliffhanger’ Is On The Way from Ana Lily Amirpour

Remaking a film with a gender-swapped lead is becoming an increasingly popular choice for filmmakers (as the most recent Ghostbusters and Ocean’s 8 prove). The 1993 action film Cliffhanger is proving to be no exception, as word has come out that director Ana Lily Amirpour (The Bad Batch, A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night) is working on a female-led remake of Cliffhanger, which originally starred Sylvester Stallone.

Details are scarce on the exact plot of the Cliffhanger remake, but in the original, the story followed Stallone’s character as he first unwittingly helped and later hunted a group of thieves who crash landed in the Rocky Mountains, losing cases containing millions of dollars in the process.

Hopefully more details on this intriguing film will be coming in the near future. Stay tuned too Cinelinx.com for updates on this story.
