Alec Baldwin Joins Joker Origins Film as Bruce Wayne’s Dad

As cameras prepare to begin rolling on the Joaquin Phoenix Joker film (supposedly within the next few weeks), the rest of the cast is coming into place. With Marc Maron, Robert De Niro, and Zazie Beetz already signed on for various parts, Deadline, has reported that Alec Baldwin has signed on to portray another iconic character in Batman lore…Thomas Wayne.

As most of you likely know, Thomas Wayne is none other than Bruce Wayne’s father, whose murder (along with his mother) spurred his journey to become Batman. According to soruces over on THR this won’t be the version of Thomas Wayne (the philanthropic doctor) we’re used to. Instead he comes across, “as a cheesy and tanned businessman who is more in the mold of a 1980s Donald Trump.”

Hmmmmmmmmmm…I’m not exactly down with that depiction of the character, as in most incarnation of the character, he’s a source of Batman’s moral compass. Not to mention I think I’ve had all I can take of Baldwin’s Trump characters. Still, this is considered an “Elseworlds” style story, that will take the characters in different directions than normal canon. So it could all work out. The cast is looking solid overall and I’m still eager to see how this new take on the Joker plays out.

Joker is currently slated to arrive on October 4, 2019
