Universal’s next remake/reboot on the list from their catalog of big screen monsters is The Mummy. This time they’ve brought in Tom Cruise and Sofia Boutella to bring the story into the modern age and I’m more intrigued than I expected to be. The road to seeing this on the big screen has been a long and winding one. It was originally announced BEFORE Dracula Untold was even a thought, but delay after delay pushed it back. Now, we finally get to see some of what they’ve cooked up:
I’m a big fan of the previous The Mummy reboot (the one with Bredan Fraser), thoroughly enjoying it’s mix of action, horror, and humor. Hell, it’s a movie I still enjoy watching. That said, I’m interested to see a story about this supernatural monster in modern times. That brings a new element to it and I’m eager to see how it all plays out. The trailer is pretty solid, so I’m crossing my fingers it delivers. What did you guys think?
Thought safely entombed in a tomb deep beneath the unforgiving desert, an ancient princess (Sofia Boutella of Kingsman: The Secret Service and Star Trek Beyond) whose destiny was unjustly taken from her is awakened in our current day, bringing with her malevolence grown over millennia and terrors that defy human comprehension.
From the sweeping sands of the Middle East through hidden labyrinths under modern-day London, The Mummy brings a surprising intensity and balance of wonder and thrills in an imaginative new take that ushers in a new world of gods and monsters.
The Mummy hits theaters on June 9, 2017.
