Assassin’s Creed Releases First Shot of Michael Fassbender in the Suit

Ever since we heard there would be an Assassin’s Creed movie, many have been clamoring for news, wanting to know if it would be about Altair and Desmond or if it would be all-new characters. Well, from the picture above, courtesy of Yahoo!, we now know that Michael Fassbender will not be playing Altair and consequently this will not be a story following Desmond or any of the characters in the video game.

Who will Michael Fassbender be portraying then?  Yahoo answers:

“Callum Lynch (Michael Fassbender) discovers he is a descendant of the secret Assassins society through unlocked genetic memories that allow him to relive the adventures of his ancestor, Aguilar, in 15th Century Spain. After gaining incredible knowledge and skills he’s poised to take on the oppressive Knights Templar in the present day.”

While the suit looks cool and the casting of Fassbender is splendid.  The premise makes me hesitant for this movie.  We haven’t had many good movies based on video games, so bringing us a brand new story could make or break this movie.  On the one hand, it allows them to creatively incorporate everything AC fans love about the series without being held back by the games. However, straying away from the characters like Altair or Ezio could hurt this film.

Only time will tell, though. Assassin’s Creed starts principal photography on Monday, August 31st, 2015 with a release of December 21, 2016
