It seems we can not go a single week with out more bad news from the DCEU. Whether it be rumors of problems with the Wonder Woman film, or The Flash losing its director, or getting a page one rewrite. Then last week we told you about Ben Affleck dropping out as the director of the solo Batman film. Well, looks like we have more for poor Ben to be sad about, as it is being reported by Forbes that now The Batman solo film is starting from scratch on the script.
According to Forbes:
How extensive the process will be — I’m hearing anything from “major rewrites” to “a completely new script,” including starting from scratch on the story if that’s what it takes — is unclear, not just to us but probably to those involved as well, since the new filmmaker might look at the story and script and decide there’s plenty to salvage that appeals to them. Once the director is in place, more will become clear, but for now Warner Bros. is suffering far more negative perceptions than they need to, simply because of the attempt to slow and control the spread of information.
This is not good for WB/DC. I thought it was time to hit the panic button when Affleck stepped down from directing. It almost looks like it is time to abandon ship. Months back Affleck told us they were having problems getting the script right, and he wouldn’t direct it if the script is not right.
But is there any kind of of silver lining in this? Well lets look at it this way. A page one re-write of Flash. A brand new script for The Batman. Could it be that WB/DC is finally getting everything together and on the same page? Rather then being all jumbled and reactionary like they have seemed to be? Let’s hope that is what it is, and not that they spiraling out of control.
Another bit of information that is promising when to come out of this, is the fact that WB has their eyes set on an director. It looks like Matt Reeves (Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes) is at the top of the list to fill the shoes of Affleck as the director. This would be the big name that WB needs to get people to believe in them again. Reeves is a talented director.
As of now Ben Affleck is still set to produce and star as The Batman, but how long will that remain with each bump in the road that continues to rise?
