Another day, another Ubisoft IP coming to Netflix. Yesterday, we reported that a Splinter Cell anime series was coming to Netflix with John Wick‘s Derek Kolstad writing and executive producing. Today, yet another video game adaptation is set to be the next Netflix Original.
According to a report by THR, Ubisoft and Netflix are developing a Beyond Good & Evil movie. Signed on to direct the film is non-other than visual effects maven Rob Letterman.
The Beyond Good & Evil film will be a Live Action, Animated hybrid, making Letterman a perfect fit for the video game adaptation. Letterman’s resume includes Dreamworks‘ Monsters vs. Aliens, Gulliver’s Travels, Goosebumps, and more recently Detective Pikachu. As you can see, he’s no stranger to incorporating CGI into Live Action.
Beyond Good & Evil initially released in 2003. It takes place in the year 2435 on a remote mining planet that is under alien attack. When several orphans are abducted during the invasion, the story sees a young photojournalist named Jade seek them out and eventually recruited to be part of an underground resistance movement.
The film adaptation is still in early stages and are currently hiring writers to adapt the film.
While this news is exciting, it does leave Ubisoft fans wanting more. During its Ubisoft Forward Press Conference, the company mentioned nothing about Beyond Good & Evil 2. Furthermore, there have no updates on the game in a significant amount of time. Previous updates have shown us that Ubisoft is creating something extremely ambitious and unlike anything we’ve ever seen before. That said, with its announcement in 2017 and the little sprinkles of updates here and there, a film announcement likely wasn’t what fans were hoping for.
Stay tuned for more.
