It’s a good time to be a science fiction fan. Between the revival of Star Wars and a new Star Trek series on the way, Blade Runner 2 is actually happening. We’ve known since last year that Denis Villenueve is signed on to direct the sequel, but today brings word about a release date. Alcon and Warner Bros. have announced that Blade Runner 2 will hit theaters on January 12, 2018.
Alcon Entertainment’s sequel to Ridley Scott‘s 1982 masterpiece BLADE RUNNER, to star Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford (reprising his role as Rick Deckard), and to be directed by Denis Villeneuve (Sciario, Prisoners), will be released by Warner Bros. in North America on January 12, 2018, it was announced by Alcon co-founders and co-CEO’s Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson.
January seems like an odd time to release a big sci-fi movie, but these days the landscape of more releases is drastically changing. With superhero films carving out their niche in early Summer, Star Wars dominating the Fall, and WB filling up their own things with March…I guess January is as good a time as any!
