‘Bridesmaids’ trailer: Is it ‘The 40 Year Old Virgin’ with women?

Eh, half and half.  I love Apatow, and I think star Kristen Wiig is one of the funnest comedians working today (look at her Saturday Night Live stuff if you need proof of that).  However, this trailer really had nothing that excited me.  It looks promising, and I laughed a couple times, but it does seem rather generic then it should.  I mean, this is an R-Rated sex comedy about women from Judd Apatow and written by Kristen Wiig.  That has to count for something, right?  To be fair, most Apatow produced films work much better with a Red Band trailer but, until then, I’m not QUITE sold yet.  But just by the talent involved, they probably already have my ticket.  I mean, it has Jon Hamm!  JON HAMM!  What the hell is he doing in this thing!?

Official Synopsis (from Apple.com)

This spring, producer Judd Apatow (Knocked Up, Superbad) and director Paul Feig (creator of Freaks and Geeks) invite you to experience Bridesmaids. Kristen Wiig leads the cast as Annie, a maid of honor whose life unravels as she leads her best friend, Lillian (Maya Rudolph), and a group of colorful bridesmaids (Rose Byrne, Melissa McCarthy, Wendi McLendon-Covey and Ellie Kemper) on a wild ride down the road to matrimony. Annie’s life is a mess. But when she finds out her lifetime best friend is engaged, she simply must serve as Lillian’s maid of honor. Though lovelorn and broke, Annie bluffs her way through the expensive and bizarre rituals. With one chance to get it perfect, she’ll show Lillian and her bridesmaids just how far you’ll go for someone you love.

Bridesmaids opens May 13, 2011.
