While everyone was recovering (or in the middle of) their Thanksgiving meal yesterday, Disney decided to drop a surprise first trailer for their upcoming live-action take on The Lion King. I couldn’t be happier. While others haven’t been keen on them, I’ve generally enjoyed Disney’s live-action remakes. Since The Lion King is my all time favorite Disney animated film, it’s definitely been the remake I’ve been most eager to see in action. Thankfully, this trailer provided the goods:
Everything about it has me giddy, and takes me straight back to my childhood. While this teaser essentially gives us just a recreation of the film’s opening sequence, it’s an impressive look at how they’ve managed to capture the feel of the cartoon, while staying “true to life.”
Combine that with hearing James Earl Jones’ Mufasa along with the music, and I’ve got chills (every time I’ve watched it). It’s an impressive first look and just leaves me excited for more. What did you think?
From Disney Live Action, director Jon Favreau’s all-new “The Lion King” journeys to the African savanna where a future king must overcome betrayal and tragedy to assume his rightful place on Pride Rock.
The Lion King hits theaters on July 19, 2019.
