Well, this has certainly been an interesting day for Marvel. On top of revealing the cast and plot for Captain America: Civil War and that Infinity War Part 1 and 2 will be shot entirely in IMAX, they’ve now announced who will be penning the script for the latter two films. Since the Russo brothers are taking over for the Avengers and had such good interactions with the Captain America screenwriters (Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely) in their time on Winter Soldier and Civil War, it was heavily rumored that those two would be back for the next two Avengers scripts…Turns out those rumors were true!
Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely will follow Captain America as they head to Marvel’s “Avengers: Infinity War – Part 1” and “Avengers: Infinity War – Part 2”!
The duo behind the screenplays for Marvel’s “Captain America: The First Avenger,” “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” and “Captain America: Civil War” will once again team with directors Joe and Anthony Russo for the two-part climax to Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. “Avengers: Infinity War – Part 1” will hit theaters May 4, 2018, with the second part following on May 3, 2019.
“Chris and Steve have been an integral part of the Marvel family since the early days of Phase 1, and their work speaks for itself,” said Producer Kevin Feige. “We couldn’t be more excited to have them with us to help guide the Avengers through their biggest story yet.”
If something is working well at Marvel, they’ve done a pretty good job of keeping people around and continuing their working relationship with them. Considering the fact that the Captain America movies so far have been among people’s favorite Marvel solo films, it’s not surprising they’d want these screenwriters to keep hanging around. The story for Infinity War looks to be huge, and bring together a BUNCH of moving parts. I’m hoping these two can pull it off with the same magic they’ve shown before.
