Catch a wave and ride it into Baywatch’s new release date!

Memorial Day is a weekend has been home to many a franchise film and summer blockbuster types. Indiana Jones, Pirates of the Caribbean, MIB, X-Men, Fast & Furious, Jurassic Park, and the list goes on. Even 2017 will house the 5th entry to Pirates of the Caribbean, Dead Men Tell No Tales. However it looks like Johnny Depp and his band of pirates now get a little bit more competition. As Paramount has now moved Seth Gordon’s Baywatch from May 19, to May 26.

The move is smart logistically. While yes Johnny and The Rock will compete for viewers against each other, Baywatch had a lot more competition the week before with Fox’s Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul, Alien Covenant,Open Road’s The Nut Job 2, and New Line/Warner Bros.’ Annabelle 2

After the announcement was made, Star of the film, and social media guru, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson took to his Instagram page to talk about the move, and announce when we can expect to see a trailer. Accompanying a picture of the Deadline article, the Rock said:

“This big news happened quickly. We tested our Rated R @BaywatchMovie to a huge audience a few weeks ago and the reaction was overwhelmingly positive.. (that’s the politically correct way of saying the crowd went ape shit w/ laughter;). The audiences’ wildfire response to #Baywatch made us rethink our release date, and us as producers and Paramount studios both felt that Memorial Day weekend is the perfect weekend to invite the world to our beach for fun in the sun. The other big movie coming out on that date is my bud Johnny Depp’s#PiratesOfTheCaribbean5 which I can’t wait to see. Memorial Day weekend 2017 is gonna be a big one: The Rated R Avengers of the Beach, who are highly dysfunctional while being incredibly cool, tan and ripped VS The Pirates. Gonna be massively fun time at the movies. Can’t wait. Bring it on. #Baywatch MEMORIAL DAY. * I’ll launch the WORLD PREMIERE trailer of#Baywatch IN 2 DAYS for you. Stay tuned”

So there we have it. Lifeguards Vs Pirates! And the first trailer on Thursday! Make sure to come back here to Cinelinx to check it out!
