Universal is once again trying to bring a new Dracula film to the big screen, but this time they’ve enlisted Chloé Zhao to make it happen!

While Universal has seemingly abandoned their plans to unite their iconic monsters, they aren’t giving up on rebooting them for newer audiences. Considering the awesomeness of Invisible Man, I’m definitely more intrigued than I’ve ever been before.

Today brings news that Chloé Zhao is on board to write and direct an all new Dracula film. The director recently snagged a Golen Globe nomination of Nomadland, and there’s already plenty of buzz about her upcoming Marvel film, Eternals. As such, this feels like a pretty exciting pick to offer a fresh take on the vampire.

“I’ve always been fascinated by vampires and the concept of the Other they embody,” said Zhao. “I’m very excited to work with Donna, Peter and the team at Universal to reimagine such a beloved character.”

One of the ways it’ll be different is that the film will be more of a futuristic Sci-Fi/Western film. I have no idea how that’ll work, but I’m kind of excited to see if it’ll work. It’s also been confirmed that this isn’t supplanting the “I’ve always been fascinated by vampires and the concept of the Other they embody,” said Zhao. “I’m very excited to work with Donna, Peter and the team at Universal to reimagine such a beloved character.”. That film is still in development from Blumhouse. So we’ve got a lot of Dracula to look forward to in the future!
