I suppose we shouldn’t be surpised anymore when it comes to Cloverfield movies, and yet J.J. Abrams and the team with Bad Robot find ways to make moves that no one could’ve ever saw coming. Today’s Cloverfield surprise comes after much speculation over the fate of Cloverfield 3, a.k.a. God Particle, a.k.a. Cloverfield Station, and if it will be heading to theaters or if Paramount will be selling the series to Netflix. If they did do the latter, the 4th Cloverfield in the Universe may not be too far behind.
Our friends at Slashfilm have issued a report today confirming that Cloverfield 4, a.k.a. Overlord, is a WWII thriller that has the following synopsis…
On the eve of D-Day, American paratroopers are dropped behind enemy lines to carry out a mission crucial to the invasion’s success. But as they approach their target, they begin to realize there is more going on in this Nazi-occupied village than a simple military operation. They find themselves fighting against supernatural forces, part of a Nazi experiment.
Keeping up with Bad Robot’s M/O, none of the films seem to have anything to do with each other except for a few small details that bind the universe together, namely Tagruato, the company that seems to be in every film/promotion. Also, keeping with the theme, J.J. Abrams is producing with a young up-and-coming director helming the project in Julius Avery. Overlord also stars Wyatt Russell and Jovan Adepo.
Oh, and it’s already completed filming.
You have to give a hand to Bad Robot for always finding ways to keep this project under wraps. Most movies wouldn’t survive well without a good marketing campaign, but the Clover-verse has remained the exception to that rule.
God Particle or Cloverfield Station or Cloverfield 3 is still supposed to release April 2018, that is unless they move it to Netflix. In which, who knows when we’ll see it.
Meanwhile, Overlord or Cloverfield 4 is rumored to release in late 2018, but who really knows at this point.
Stay tuned for more Cloverfield news has it develops!
