The last 24 hours have been movie trailer heaven for cinephiles. On top of new trailers for Suicide Squad and Fantastic Beasts from last night’s MTV Movie Awards, we now have a new TMNT 2 trailer to enjoy. This one definitely takes a better look at the story and the implications for our heroes in a half-shell:
One of the things I like most in this trailer, and something I wish they’d spent more time on, was the idea of the Turtles becoming human. It’s obviously a moral dilemma for them, in that they want to fit in with the rest of the world but they can’t simply forget who they are either. It’s an idea that could provide a lot of drama and I hope provides a central theme in the film. It’s a surprisingly deep and thoughtful notion, so I’m crossing my fingers it’s not quickly brushed over in favor of quick action instead (like everything in the first movie).
All around, however, I enjoy this trailer. I liked the first film though acknowledge it’s many story flaws. The characters are what sold me, and if they can bring that same characterization through with a better story, Out of the Shadows could be something special. Not to mention we get a shot of the TECHNODROME!
Michelangelo, Donatello, Leonardo, and Raphael return to theaters this summer to battle bigger, badder villains, alongsideApril O’Neil (Megan Fox), Vern Fenwick (Will Arnett), and a newcomer: the hockey-masked vigilante Casey Jones (Stephen Amell). After supervillain Shredder escapes custody, he joins forces with mad scientist Baxter Stockman (Tyler Perry) and two dimwitted henchmen, Bebop (Gary Anthony Williams) and Rocksteady (WWE Superstar Stephen “Sheamus” Farrelly), to unleash a diabolical plan to take over the world. As the Turtles prepare to take on Shredder and his new crew, they find themselves facing an even greater evil with similar intentions: the notorious Krang.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows hits theaters on June 3, 2016. What did you guys think of the trailer?
