Conan the Barbarian Official Theatrical Trailer!

The first teaser trailer just hinted at what we could expect, trying to imbue our idea of this remake with a hint of that mystical, archaically lawless atmosphere that the original Conan possessed. Yet though it tried, it wasn’t tantalizing enough. This official theatrical trailer is better, but I’m expecting a lot from this movie, and I still want more. Yes, it’s filled with all that barbarian sword slashing we all know and love. And yes, a few of the scenes look familiar and tantalizing, and it definitely shows a Conan for the 21st century, but will the film deliver all the heat, sexuality, adventure, and primal warrior power we expect from a Conan film?

A clean shaven Momoa definitely looks like he was born to swing that broadsword around, and his moves, foreboding expression and muscles look as impressive as Arnold’s ever did.

Conan the Barbarian (2011) – Jason Momoa as the famous Cimmerian, Conan.

Momoa does have a huge fan base from his role as Ronon Dex in Stargate: Atlantis. With his role as Khal Drogo, the hulking and dread warlord king of the Dothraki horde, on the hit HBO series Game of Thrones that fan base is sure to grow exponentially. Will this remake work the same magic for Jason Momoa as it did for Arnold? It might, if the story is fresh yet familiar and battle filled. If the story appeals to both new fans and fans of the original film, I’d bet my broadsword Momoa will have no problem convincing us he is that famous Crom worshipping warrior Conan the Cimmerian. Hopefully the movie doesn’t disappoint.

Conan the Barbarian slashes into theaters August 19, 2011.

Conan the Barbarian Official Theatrical Trailer!

When I was a kid there was one word that had the power to transport me to another time when swords, barbarians and evil kings ruled the world, and a valor-loving Crom was the god of all. That one word was Conan. Now this hit classic from 1982 that made Arnold a megastar is being remade and Jason Momoa is set to become Conan the Barbarian for this new millennium.
