The first Creed movie is one of my favorites and was such a wonderful surprise when it released. Not every “sequel/spin-off” movie from a beloved franchise has turned out to be good, but Creed managed to surpass all expectations. Despite director Ryan Coogler not returning, I can’t help but feel a good amount of hype for Creed II and this morning’s trailer is kicking it into overdrive:
I like how the focus of this trailer is still firmly on Adonis and his personal journey, rather than relying solely on the return of “Drago” as the selling point. While the first film paid homage to the legacy of the previous films, it didn’t rely on that nostalgia to tell its story either. This Creed II trailer is on that same track and I’m ready for more.
Life has become a balancing act for Adonis Creed. Between personal obligations and training for his next big fight, he is up against the challenge of his life. Facing an opponent with ties to his family’s past only intensifies his impending battle in the ring. Rocky Balboa is there by his side through it all and, together, Rocky and Adonis will confront their shared legacy, question what’s worth fighting for, and discover that nothing’s more important than family. Creed II is about going back to basics to rediscover what made you a champion in the first place, and remembering that, no matter where you go, you can’t escape your history.
Creed II hits theaters on November 21, 2018.
