D23 Special Look at The Rise of Skywalker Reveals a Darker Side of Rey

At long last, the special look for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker attendees watched at D23 is finally out! It’s chalk-full of insanely cool fight scenes, visuals, and a side of Rey few thought we’d ever see. See it within…

Even though D23 ended less than 24 hours ago, fans of the Disney brand are still feeling the aftershock of the biannual event. While there was a lot to get excited for at D23, it was the special look that only the attendees of the Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker panel witnessed, over the weekend, that sent the Star Wars fandom into a tizzy. Mainly because it gave us our first look at the darker side of Rey.

Today, Disney is sharing this special look with the rest of the world and the reveal at the end is even more mind-blowing than you can possibly imagine. Check it out.

There is so much to unpack in this special look. The first half of it puts into perspective how far we’ve come with the Skywalker Saga, while the latter half previews what’s to come. Focusing on the latter, the special look shows just how epic of a conclusion we’re in for, with Rey and Kylo Ren battling in what can be assumed are the remains of the Death Star.

However, not to take away from the rest of this video, the primary focus of this D23 Special Look is undoubtedly the reveal of Dark Rey. Could this be a mind trick by Palpatine? Is this a doppelganger from when Rey went into the Dark Side of the island? Is this the fate of the woman whom the Resistance and Luke Skywalker put their faith in? Who knows but it’s pretty damn cool, right?! And that lightsaber! Come on! How awesome is that?! Darth Maul would be proud of that weapon…and envious.

All answers will be revealed on December 20, 2019 when the Skywalker Saga reaches its epic conclusion in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, starring Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Anthony Daniels, Naomi Ackie, Domhnall Gleeson, Richard E. Grant, Lupita Nyong’o, Keri Russell, Joonas Suotamo, Kelly Marie Tran, and Billy Dee Williams. Directed by J.J. Abrams.
