Darkseid Won’t Be the Main Villain in ‘Justice League’ Movie

DC has had a tough go of it since they embarked on their cinematic universe.  Despite the few who enjoyed Man of Steel and BvS (myself included), neither have been the record-breaking hit that the established comic book company has strived for.  It could be due to Zack Snyder‘s leadership (as some believe it to be), it could be the pressure to catch up to Marvel, or maybe it could be something else entirely.

Regardless, DC is trying really hard to get their train back on the rails.  There have even been rumors that a leadership change is in the works and the whole “dark, gritty” aspect may be alterred.  In the meantime, though, Director Zack Snyder maintains a hold over Justice League Part 1, and contrary to popular belief Darkseid won’t be the main villain.

In fact, that mantle will be held by none other than the Apokolips Military Leader and Uncle to Darkseid, Steppenwolf.  The report comes from the Editor-in-Chief Devin ofBirth.Movies.Death who confirms that the deleted scene in BvS is actually a foreshadowing of things to come in the DCEU.

If you haven’t seen it, take a look.

Kind of a weird scene to leave out of the movie…if anything this could’ve been a scene after the credits.  Seems like a missed opportunity to leave this scene for the Blu-Ray.

So who is Steppenwolf?  Well, he’s a minor character in DC Comics.  He’s had a checkered past with Darkseid but he’s never really been an enemy to fear too much.  It seems like he’s going to be beefed up as a precursor to Darkseid and the rest of Apokolips.

As for Darkseid, he’ll still be in the movie according Devin.

Darkseid is a presence in the movie, and fully appears at the end of the film, but don’t expect him to do much. The other DC solo movies between Justice League and Justice League 2 take place in realish time – ie, The Flash takes place after Justice League – so whatever evil plan Darkseid has will wait until Justice League 2 to be revealed.

Justice League Part 1 will be in theaters November 17, 2017.

What do you think of Steppenwolf?
