Most films like start out their marketing with a trailer. Dropping it on YouTube, or during Monday Night Football, maybe even on Facebook. However Deadpool is a horse of a different color. Earlier today they dropped the first poster for the film. But that wasn’t all the marketing they had set up. No the merc with a mouth will be gracing the cover and pages of a magazine. Not very odd, EW does something for nearly every X-Men film to date. But this isn’t EW:
Yep, 20th Century Fox has decided to use the holiday recipe magazine Good Housekeeping to kick off the Deadpool 2 marketing campaign. Truth be told, this is pretty hilarious. The issue that will be handed out in cities throughout the country is full of Deadpool recipes, including “D’s Spiced Nuts” and the Deadpool way of carving a turkey, which I don’t suggest trying.
Jane Francisco, Editor in Chief of Good Housekeeping spoke about partnering with Fox and Deadpool on the issue:
“Deadpool’s persistence to be in Good Housekeeping was impressive – initially we had no idea who he was, let alone that he was a fan of the magazine, but after repeated attempts to ignore his… passion… we came to a compromise. He could appear in one issue, if he promised to stop leaving care packages at our editors’ homes and agreed to maintain a 50-foot distance from the Good Housekeeping offices and our staff.”
Deadpool had to respond himself:
“After years of weekly emails and countless carrier pigeons, Good Housekeeping finally returned my calls, and while it’s a dream come true, apparently we have vastly different opinions on the definition of a ‘holiday spread’…”
If this isn’t the sign of another perfecting marketing campaign, I don’t know what is. Check out the pages below.
