That’s right Star of Rocky IV and The Expendables Dolph Lundgren is heading to the DCEU. James Wan’s Aquaman to be exact. THR is reporting that Lundgren is set to play King Nereus. In the comics, Nereus is a fearsome warrior who hails from Xebel, the home kingdom of Mera who will be played by Amber Heard in both Justice League and Aquaman. King Nereus will be a rival to Jason Momoa’s Aquaman as the alleged betrothed to Mera, Aquaman’s love interest.
In the follow up to Justice League, Lundgren, Momoa, and Heard will be joined by William Dafoe as royal advisor to Aquaman, Nuidis Vulko. Nicole Kidman as Aquaman’s mother, and Temuera Morrison as Aquaman’s father. However, while we know Lundgren will be in a villainous role, he’s not the only Aquaman rival. On of James Wan’s regular go to guys, Patrick Wilson, plays Orm Marius, the Ocean Master, Aquaman’s nefarious half-brother. As well as Yahya Abdul-Mateen (The Get Down) as the iconic Aquaman villain Black Manta.
Dolph Lundgren has had a quiet little comeback as of late with The Expendables franchise, and recently popping up as villainous Russian Mobster Konstantin Kovar on CW’s Arrow.
Aquaman is setting up for production in May in Australia and is scheduled hit theaters December 21, 2018.
