Robert Downey Jr. is set to take up the mantle of Dr. Dolittle, in another remake of the classic film by the same name. Based on Hugh Lofting’s 1920’s children’s books, The Voyage Of Dr. Dolittle will reimagine the tale of a doctor who discovers that he can not only hear animals speaking to him, but he can talk to them as well.
The original film came out in 1967, and was then famously remade by comedic legend Eddie Murphy in 1998. The remake spawned a theatrical sequel, and a few direct-dvd sequels. Now as it looks like Robert Downey Jr. attempts to fill the shoes of Eddie Murphy, he has recently dropped the entire voice cast of the film.
Universal/Comcast Corp confirmed RDJ’s tweet about the voice cast, giving us our first true look at the films full cast. The cast will include a live action cast of Antonio Banderas, Michael Sheen, Harry Collett and Jim Broadbent alongside of RDJ. And an even more impressive voice cast of John Cena, Tom Holland, Selena Gomez, Emma Thompson, Craig Robinson, Ralph Fiennes, Marion Cotillard, Octavia Spencer, Kumail Nanjiani, Rami Malek, Carmen Ejogo and Frances De La Tour.
The Voyage of Dr. Dolittle is expected to hit theaters on April 12, 2019.
