As of Tuesday night, March 22nd, Batman v Superman is off to a bad start. While not all the reviews are in yet, the ones that are do not bode well for one of the most highly anticipated films of the year. The early critical response is a disappointment for DC, Warner Bros. and for fans of the Caped Crusader and the Man of Steele.
As of tonight (Tuesday) Metacritic has Batman v Superman at 48%, while Rotten Tomatoes has it at an even lower 41%. That’s bound to change over the next few days, and maybe the overall average scores will go up, but then again, maybe they’ll go down.
This is the last thing DC/Warner Bros. wanted to see. This is an expensive film and the powers-that-be have hopes of it hitting the Billion Dollar mark. Certainly, the film will make a profit regardless of the reviews, but will the critic’s negative comments slow its momentum and keep it from joining the Billion Dollar club?
Nothing is written in stone yet and there are still a lot of critics left to be heard from, so maybe this will just be a small hiccup, but it is a worrying sign.
Let’s see what kind of reviews the rest of the week brings.
UPDATE: As of Friday, (the release date) the RT score has dropped to 29% and the Metacritic score has dropped to 44%.
