Musicals, generally speaking, are not my thing. Never have been, and unless it comes in the form of a Disney animated feature, I generally can’t tolerate them. That’s not to say musicals are BAD, just that music has never been all that important to me (perhaps from being mostly deaf in one ear). Yet here we are with La La Land, a movie I can’t help but feel excited for:
To be honest, I’ll watch just about anything with Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone in it. These two are wonderful actors and sparks fly when they interact with one another. Couple that with some impressive visual aestethics in this trailer, along with a haunting meloncholic song, and I’m totally sold. Definitely didn’t expect this.
Written and directed by Academy Award nominee Damien Chazelle, LA LA LAND tells the story of Mia [Emma Stone], an aspiring actress, and Sebastian [Ryan Gosling], a dedicated jazz musician, who are struggling to make ends meet in a city known for crushing hopes and breaking hearts. Set in modern day Los Angeles, this original musical about everyday life explores the joy and pain of pursuing your dreams.
La La Land hits theaters this December.
