Fast & Furious 8 May Have Found its Director, Straight Outta Compton

As soon as Furious 7 ended, Vin Diesel announced that there would be a Fast & Furious 8. However, with James Wan not returning, the super-charged ship was without a captain.  Although, that may be soon changing as it appears Universal Pictures may have selected its next director.

After the recent success of Straight Outta Compton, Director F. Gary Gray has been a hot commodity in the movie world.  Until now, he was rumored to be one of the final four director’s for Marvel’s Black Panther movie.  However, if the picture above and Vin Diesel’s words are true, he may be scrapping the vibranium claws for a super-charged v6 turbo.

If anyone were to take the helm of this franchise, I’d want it to be F. Gary Gray, especially after Straight Outta Compton.  Although, the nagging question remains…why?  Why are we getting another Fast & Furious movie?

I’ve seen every single movie and the story is over.  Since 4, we’ve had this story arc that has lasted for three movies.  All the enemies are either dead, in a coma or locked up, they’ve retired 3 times now, and Paul Walker has passed.  Furious 7 was a wonderful tribute to Paul Walker.  He was an integral part of the Fast and Furious vehicle.  With that, it should’ve ended there.  The only thing that Furious 7 teases is Jason Statham yelling at Dwayne Johnson that he will get out of maximum security.  I just thought that was what every bad guy said in the movies.  Maybe Universal saw that as the next plot of the franchise.

Regardless, the movie franchise will return for an 8th installment and I will most likely be sitting in the theatres like everyone else, gazing at the ridiculous vehicular stunts.  Maybe this time they’ll torpedo a muscle car out of a submarine?  At this point, nothing would surprise me.

What do you think of Furious 8 and F. Gary Gray?
