Things are certainly heating up for the first Star Wars standalone movie. Considering the film is set to begin shooting in March/April (which we’ve been hearing for a while), that makes sense for us to finally start hearing tidbits leaking out. Casting has been happening for the last couple weeks, and we’ve heard about some of the ladies who’ve been auditioning for the lead role…but today brings a new report from both The Wrap and THR that Felicity Jones is going to be our new leading lady:
After a series of hush-hush readings and tests, Lucasfilm and Disney have zeroed in on Oscar-nominated actress Felicity Jones for the female lead in the Star Wars stand-alone film.
In the last day or two, you’ve probably heard rumors about Maslany landing the lead role (and even one ridiculous rumor about who she’d be playing), but those were quickly debunked and if there was any lingering doubt, this should take care of it. Better yet, the report goes further saying that Aaron Paul (best known from Breaking Bad) was being looked at for the male lead part in the film. If this sounds familar, remember that our buds from MakingStarWars first broke the scoop back in December that Aaron Paul was being looked at for the spin-off movie.
Their report claims he was being looked at for a young Han Solo, which is possible considering the latest rumors have said that Han Solo and Boba Fett will appear in this film. The truth is, however, we simply don’t know yet. Disney isn’t saying anything yet (as usual) and we’re left scuttlebutt. Hopefully we’ll find out sooner rather than later, but there’s no telling. As casting continues to heat up, I wouldn’t be surprised to start hearing confirmations on things in the next month or so.
What do you guys think of this potential casting? Are you excited to see Felicity Jones and Aaron Paul join the galaxy far, far away?
