I’m not entirely sure what to think about this first Assassin’s Creed movie trailer. It’s a tough call, as I’ve never been a real fan of the games, but I do enjoy the story ideas they present. Plus I still love seeing Michael Fassbender in action. The first trailer debuted last night on Jimmy Kimmel, and you can watch it below if you missed out:
It’s really not a bad trailer at all. The music choice is definitely off, but on the whole, there’s a lot of good things in the trailer. Fans of the series have already noticed some significant changes (like how the Animus is an entire room, rather than a chair), but on the whole, it looks distintly like Assassin’s Creed. The action looks pretty damn solid, and there are some great shots in here that are sure to be amazing on the big screen.
The film isn’t a direct adaptation of any of the games, but instead serves up an all new story that will be a companion to the franchise overall. Frankly, this is the best way to go, as it will allow the filmmakers to tell the story they want in the best way possible. The more I think about it, the more I enjoy the trailer, but I definitely need more on the story before I can feel sold on it.
Assassin’s Creed follows a character by the name of Callum Lynch who, through a revolutionary technology that unlocks his genetic memories, is able to experience the adventures of his ancestor, Aguilar, in 15th Century Spain. Callum discovers he is descended from a mysterious secret society, the Assassins, and amasses incredible knowledge and skills to take on the oppressive and powerful Templar organization in the present day.
Assassin’s Creed hits theaters on December 21, 2016. What do you guys think of the first Assassin’s Creed movie trailer? Be sure to let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
