If you’ve never read the Stephen King book, Carrie, nor (for some inexplicable reason) seen the original film of the same name, then this trailer will give you about all the information you could ever want on the story. Seriously, there’s no air of mystery here and it doesn’t look like there are going to be any surprises when you check out the film in theaters. That’s not entirely a bad thing, however. Let’s watch the trailer and we’ll talk after:
What this trailer does well, is show us Kimberly Pierce’s (the director) take on the classic film. Rather than keep certain things a mystery or saving them for ‘revelations’ within the film, they seem like they’re fully embracing the fact that this is a remake. Thus, they show quite a bit of information here in this trailer. It’s clear that this version is ramping up the intensity and taking a more superheroish approach to her powers, rather than straight up horror. The interactions between Carrie and her mom look sufficiently disturbing and all I know is that despite all this trailer shows, I’m more interested in this film than I was previously. Here’s the official synopsis:
A reimagining of the classic horror tale about Carrie White (Chloe Grace Moretz), a shy girl outcast by her peers and sheltered by her deeply religious mother (Julianne Moore), who unleashes telekinetic terror on her small town after being pushed too far at her senior prom. Based on the best-selling novel by Stephen King, Carrie is directed by Kimberly Peirce with a screenplay by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa.
Carrie hits theaters on October 18, 2013…So how interested are you guys in this remake, now that we’ve seen more?
