Warner Brothers has released the first image from Prometheus, the prequel to the Alien franchise, and while it is intriguing to fans, it does not give much insight into the film. Indeed, besides this photo, the studio has not released much about the movie at all. While the image, shown below and courtesy of Collider’s website, does remind fans of the mood and look of the original film, that is all it does. We have not even been told who is shown in the image or the context.
Director Ridley Scott, who also helmed the original Alien in 1979, certainly has captured the Alien feel, we do not know what direction he will take with the movie. In the years since Alien, Scott has proven himself to be a great director, and it is likely he will not try to replicate the eerie claustrophobia of the original.
In case you forgot, here is the official synopsis for the film via Warner Brothers:
Visionary filmmaker Ridley Scott returns to the genre he helped define, creating an original science fiction epic set in the most dangerous corners of the universe. The film takes a team of scientists and explorers on a thrilling journey that will test their physical and mental limits and strand them on a distant world, where they will discover the answers to our most profound questions and to life’s ultimate mystery.
Noomi Rapace has been cast as the lead, while Charlize Theron, Idris Elba, Guy Pearce, and Michael Fassbender round out the cast.
Prometheus opens June 8, 2012.
