This morning brings our first look at the next Ghostbusters movie, which will follow on from the original films, while bringing new heroes into the mix.
Last week we got our first details/images of Ghostbusters: Afterlife, the upcoming sequel/reboot that follows on from the original two films. Today brings us our first trailer and it’s pretty great:
Couple things I’m really liking in this trailer (aside from Paul Rudd who’s always great). For one, I’m glad that so much of this teaser puts the focus on the new family and characters. while there’s obviously the connection to the original Ghostbusters (looks like these are Egon’s grandchildren), the trailer doesn’t solely rely on that aspect to make Afterlife look interesting. Secondly, the nostalgia that is present only serves to make the those moments with the new characters more engaging.
While I’m sure later marketing will bring in the Ghostbusters nostalgia in full (after all, pretty much the entire living cast of the originals are coming back), it’s a nice look at what’s coming next and I’m very eager to see more.
From director Jason Reitman and producer Ivan Reitman, comes the next chapter in the original Ghostbusters universe. In Ghostbusters: Afterlife, when a single mom and her two kids arrive in a small town, they begin to discover their connection to the original ghostbusters and the secret legacy their grandfather left behind.
Ghostbusters: Afterlife hits theaters on July 10, 2020.
